Series Of Real Testaments From Virtual Professionals On Their Journey From The Corporate To The Virtual World: from Claudette

My name is Claudette, and I worked for more than 20 years in a corporate environment—a physical office in Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. Unlike the rest of the cities and provinces in the country, the promising environment for career-focused individuals in Manila also comes with perpetual traffic, pollution, and flood zones. What stood out the most for me was that the culture of burning candles at both ends was so normalized and incentivized. I got so used to that kind of life, until lo and behold, I got diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease, and I am also now suffering from a frozen shoulder because of my unhealthy and imbalanced lifestyle. Working alone in the city, I only get to go home to my family in the province three or four times a month, just like an overseas Filipino worker. Ninety-nine percent of the time, I could not perform my duty as a mother. Living away from my family is a big sacrifice! Even technology and social media could not help fill the void of being away from family.

The pandemic was a wake-up call for me as a mother. My kids could not cope with the demands of their online schooling. The missed projects and reports, incomplete quizzes and long exams, and stressful follow-ups from various teachers made my heart bleed. I felt empty for not being able to instill the right values and lend a hand when needed. Then, I realized that even with a high-paying job, life will still be a total wreck if our time here on Earth is just spent solely on working.

Choosing the path to becoming a Virtual Professional was a decision that I would never regret!

After contemplating our situation and weighing the pros and cons, I finally decided to leave the hustle and bustle of Manila and started looking for remote jobs. Being a virtual assistant is a great career option that offers flexibility, variety, and work-life balance. I started joining free online learning sessions to upgrade my skills.

Now, I am happy to be working in a virtual environment, especially with Freedom and Balance! I found a new family and a challenging and exciting job with my F@B family! Most importantly, I am starting to create that work-life balance that I have been looking for ever since I entered the corporate world.

It gives me more quality time for myself and my family. My kids have good grades; in fact, they are now on the honor roll. And for myself, I am currently serving as a lector in our parish.

This life is the measure of my success as a mother and as a wife, and F@B was able to help me achieve it.

Below is my takeaway for F@B’s 2-Week Training Program.
